There is one component present in Lynda Chance's books that keep me reading. That component is super possessive, alpha cave men. I don't read her books because of the intricate story lines or brilliant writing... Lynda Chance writes her fictional hero's exactly how I crave them. They are over the top possessive! When I stumbled upon my first book by this author, I was desperate to read everything else she had written. I saw this book and got excited because I thought I was going to get my "alpha fix"-- That thrill I get while reading all her books. I was disappointed. The hero in this book showed a pale shadow of the traits I was expecting. Frankly, I was bored! Usually, Lynda's Books have my heart thumping in reaction to her hero's cave men ways. I don't know what happened here... I debated with myself on only rating it one star, but after a lot of thought, I realized that is exactly what it deserved (in my opinion!). This doesn't mean I have given up on this author! I really hope her next book has exactly what this one lacked.

Lynda, you are the only author out there (that I have found) that has the guts to write a romance hero the way you do. There are a lot of people that roll their eyes in response to heros like the ones you write, and immediately feel like their feminine rights are in danger. But there are also readers out there that crave exactly that kind of male in their books.I am one of them! :) I'm sorry for the low star rating... I really wanted to enjoy it as much as I have your other books. This one just fell short for me. I'm still a fan and I'm still looking forward to your next book.

The Rancher Virgin Acquisition edition by Lynda Chance Romance eBooks Reviews

I absolutely loved this book! I'm not usually into reading books that took place a "long time ago", but this romance was HOT and felt very modern. I love Lynda's writing style and this book does not disappoint! Enjoy!
lynda chance is the best writer. her books are perfect. this book is just one of many works of art. sexy, strong, Alfa man yum makes me wish lynda wrote my life story, lol. this is a wonderful book that u will read time and time again you will love it, great book
I just reread this book for probably the 5th time. I love all books by Lynda Chance. I like the build up in this book so much. The way he takes care of her and her of him. I really like the heroine and her struggles with survival, language and keeping the H in line!
I do so love Lynda Chance's hot alpha males!! Luke rescues Emma from a stagecoach ambush and is instantly mesmerized. He craves Emma's pale beauty and will stop at nothing to have it. She's a widow so she knows the ways of men, making her fair game. But Emma is really an innocent. Read and watch Luke tie himself in knots when he learns this little fact. You'll be glad you did!!!
I really love how LC writes her heroes, and I can usually count on a good read from her, too. But to be honest, this new one isn't a favorite of mine. By no means is it a bad read. I think most fans will think it's a pretty solid read, but with LC, I've come to expect something beyond solid or down the middle. But that's what this story was for me just okay.

Something seemed to be missing for me here in this story with this hero. It felt as if his alpha-ness (is that a word?) was toned down. He just wasn't as intense as her other heroes have been. I also didn't feel as if I got to really know him that much, either. As for the heroine, she has a limp and is sweet, and I liked that about her, that she was different, imperfect, but she was almost bland. She really lacked that spark of something.

Also, the h/H don't have sex until late in the book. Of course, there is some sexual tension to compensate, but it's nowhere near what you'd find in LC's other books, imo. Just not the same intensity there. If h/H aren't having sex in a story, I need a tight connection there between them, somehow. I wonder if LC scaled back after the negative reaction some readers had to Raul (Staking His Claim). This hero, Luke, is not PC at all, true, but he just wasn't OTT as I wanted or expected him to be. I wanted more heat in the story, and I'm not only talking sex here.

I do feel the story dragged some, as if LC were stretching it out beyond the point where it really should have ended. I know I personally have always wished her to write a longer story, but I do need that story to have something to it, like more action, romance, sex, something. Here, beyond the stage coach hold-up (which the reader does not experience), the only thing kind of exciting is when the h finds herself surrounded by rattlesnakes. Then the H comes to the rescue. That's it. They really go nowhere and do nothing more in the story. He didn't even want her to leave the house. I even thought more would happen with the outlaws.

Overall, this isn't a bad story. There are elements here that I do like, elements of the LC I've come to love and expect. However, I still feel some real heat and romance were missing, at least for me. I definitely feel the hero was less than I wanted him to be. I really wanted to fall in love with him, but it just wasn't there. This story is like LC-lite or diet, and I really wanted the extra calories.
This has become one of my favorite books. I love Emma and Luke. Emma is so sweet and innocent that she just makes my heart melt. Luke is so tough and mean but yet sweet. I love how Maria kinda mother's Emma. This is a great book. I loved it!
I am not a big fan of historical romances but I am a fan of this author so I thought I would give this book a try. This book is another hit for her alpha male writing style. Luke loves Emma in his own way, which is he doesn't know any more than she does what true love really means all he knows is the thought of her with someone else makes his blood boil. Emma is an innocent woman who is traveling to her knew job when the one she had with a widow has ended. When these two meet it is a catastrophic mess and the lies she tells don't help much either. I enjoy these types of stories though where even thought the male character is a little gruff he knows how to love his soft woman with his very life. I would recommend this book to anyone
